A lean engine is a hot engine. First thing I would do is pull the plug and have a look-see. These bikes are all getting a bit long in the tooth and and air leak at the manifold isn't uncommon.

I did the same thing, ordered mine from Jesse but... Didn't work so I threw it in a box. Then I brought home a DRZ400, needed a new throttle tube and whataya know... not a waste of $10 after all.
