1) cut the zip ties...

2) remove the hoses and multiple zip ties running to the canister from the bike
3) plug the now exposed outlet...

Just over 600 miles on mine, so not the same experience, but I have found that if I'm not riding in a head wind, I don't have too many issues with the breeze without a windshield. It really is smooth...

I've taken the canister off of probably 10 bikes and never had any issues. I'm sure some of that could be up to your dealers, but I've never heard any issues specifically related to this removal.
