Oshkosh is a lot of fun

Two memories. I only attended once back in the mid-1980's before we had kids.
My mother in law worked for the FAA so we had some knowledge of where to go, what to see.
First walking among the...

My take

Steve: I had a 2002 LC4e that I loved. The carb had been properly jetted. The air box was opened up. It had the KTM factory exhaust. If pulled to 100mph on or off road. Like a freight train. Much...

Glad you made it thru surgery Bernie

Heal up so we can ride! Even if you're not 100% by fall come back to Wabeno for the Big Woods. Would be fun to hang out.

Unifilter intake socks vital NOT overkill

I ride a mix of everything on 1190 R. I just pulled the socks. They were clogged with seeds, buds, twigs, etc. that's after 6 months.
I CAN see how they might tear or fail. One has to be very ...

Try MCC or Countryside

Not too far from each other now that I think of it.
MCC (every good Euro brand) is in Villa Park and Countryside BMW/KTM is in Countryside.

To visit both from Michigan Avenue would be 4 hours...

I need a stock exhaust/muffler for my son

To pass a sound test. The bike he bought came with a (loud) FMF can.
Something affordable for the teen.
Thanks,

Perhaps he could post a comparison for the rest of us to...

Stock wheels fine

I have beaten the crap out of the stock tubeless wheels on my R. I run Heidenau's *at full pressure* and they haven't lost any air. I M talking about high-speed over bay heads and sharp rocks.

Grizzled Riders A Compliment

Zorchdog how are you? Nah I think I'll keep her.

BTW I found that even with the stock Continental tires the 1190 R is pretty good on gravel....

1190 R versus 990 off-road only

I traded my 2010 990 in for the 1190 R about 14 months ago. Good decision!
Right after setting the bike up I joined CJ Racer and two other grizzled 950 riders and a BMW 800 GS rider for a 1000 mile...

Cam Bearings

Mine went at about 15000 miles. Motor was very well maintained. Cost me a lot to have them replaced because as they disintegrated they took out the cam.
Beware.

Great Report

So you are a reformed Yooper. I'm just a wanna-be Yooper. But I suppose if I grew up there I'd have relocated south too.
Your fresh perspective on the Great Lakes makes this an awesome ride report....

Merlin is right about fuel

I believe I used the 6 gallon Safari tank on my KTM LC4 and carried the 2 gallon rotopax. Overkill. Longest stretch was 200 miles plus.

The 700 BMW sounds perfect.

Ramen/Great Trip/Jimmie A

That was a blast. Good to see you posting Jimmie.
What a remote beautiful area.
A boat is more useful than a bike on Ramea.
But the tippy, flat-bottom ferry to Ramea was quite the thing. Saw a...
