I had my bench top made from SS for many years. I just changed it to two layers of 3/4" maple plywood.

I never liked the metal, always felt cold and every time I worked on guns I had to cover it.

I also have the lever. Use it mainly to dismount. I use tire irons to mount, I never got the lever to work that well and it's super simple to use irons with the stand.
