Fixed the bike.
Limped around on the bike for a while.
Got bushwhacked.
(Never...

I'm no electronics expert.
But I think it runs on 25.4v current, drawing 2.1 amps. Sure seems like the electrical draw of your typical 55w halogen bulb....

As I repair this , is there any collective wisdom of things to look for so this happens later, rather than sooner, next time?

On the way home after a long day of breaking concrete.
We were driving a 6 cylinder stepvan.
It developed a loose exhaust on the way.
At a stop light, we sidled up to a flat bed...

plenty strong enough.
If you remove the pedal itself from the axle it rotates around, you'll find a solid steel shaft of about 9/16th in diameter.
I jumped on them in the shop with the bike on the...

I spent a lot of time...

Stock shocks on my gs1100 with 45K on the bike.
There are no big jumps or huge holes.
Think of it as a really long, fairly rough gravel road.
