450 lbs with a half tank of fuel....that was with the small tank. Not light but about 100 lbs lighter than my old 1150gs

Its a 94, 5 speed 883 motor punched out to a 1200. Yes... the tank is aluminum sheet...done by a local fabricator here in phoenix....a little blocky looking but not bad for as big as it is.

xr650r.. 6 gal sahara tank
Just wonder what others have experianced with this tanks durability. The wall thickness seems scarily thin. I can see where minor rubbing or one fall in the rocks would hole this thing.

While I have you on the line, if I am not mistaken....the r does not have a radiator fan, has this been a problem? I would think for in town stop and go driving it would be necessary.

Which large capicity tank (over 6 gal ) is the best to get? It looks to me like some of these extend below the carb and will require a pump of some kind to get at all the fuel

I have changed plenty tubes in the field and the older I get, the less I want to do it. I have a full blown tire machine in my shop so installation and repair would not be a big deal.
