I don't think that's true with a 94 or newer model. The internal gearing is 12% lower on the newer models. AND the stock speedo on these bikes is 5+% fast. 6K with 15/40 on the later models will...

It's a bit of a PITA to check the oil so people often don't do it. . However I think it's really important because most DR350s use some.

Perhaps the reason you see it mentioned here...

Doubtful. The CDI is NOT powered by the charging system. It has a dedicated coil in the stator that supplies power. However you should check the voltage output immediately when you get it running....

Following up on that thought. I rebuilt a '78 CX500 last year that had a failed ignition system. I bought an Ignitech CDI as part of a group buy on the CX500 forum that fixed that ole girl right up....

0 ohms or infinity? Infinity means your coil is open. Zero means it's shorted. The should be a measureable stable resistance value. A bad coil can destroy your CDI also.

Spinning the starter with the plugs ungrounded will sometimes destroy the coil or CDI. That energy has to go somewhere. It WILL find it's way to ground thru the circuitry or insulation.
