if it's this hose (viewed from the right hand side of a '83 Honda V45 Sabre), I do believe it's a crank case breather (probably for emissions).

Not much to look for.... old Honda motors are pretty much bulletproof with even not-up-to-par care. I don't know if the 450 has problems with the cam chain tensioner, but that's something to look out...
