I'm on the same school of thought as you. Bike feels more stable at slow speed maneuvers when a touch of rear break is applied. And of course, turn that head and look where you want to go.

I've gotten pretty efficient on the drums on the rear of my 85 C10. They sure did suck at first though. I'm REALLY glad my pops showed me the ropes as far as wrenching goes.
