Yes, you need to set the preload. Damping is controlled through the bikes DDC modes which you change using the bar switch. You can choose to have Soft, Normal and Hard settings for each riding mode...

Any rear sets from the RR will fit. I'm 6'6" and I have Attack rear sets off my traded in RR. With the rear sets and the Comfort seat, it's way more comfortable than my RR was.
