The computer cancels after some amount of time based on the speed of the bike. If you are sitting still (like waiting for light to change)...

IIRC there is a slightly modified design to the R/R but it is only that the charging voltage is slightly higher ... it is still the "shunt" design which does run the stator at 100% of possible output...
