I've spent quite a bit of time there, and I've always had good luck throwing down my tent at the marina in Hammond (free spots). Ride out there (4 or 5 miles from Astoria downtown) and look around on...

I have to say that either one will most likely be a great bike. I have an 02 that has been flawless in 50 k miles. Trust yor gut, and buy the one that floats your boat... either way, you will love it.
