Even if your bike is using the maximum acceptable by BMW standards (1 liter/ 1000 kilometers) there is no reason to carry oil. Get it at truck stops along the way.

After many years of dealership experience I would avoid 2005 and 2006 1200's.
The 2007 on oil cooled are great.
2003 through 2006 1150's are very good if you can put up with the servo brakes.
