As others said, a fine tooth saw blade, tape the cut lines, etc.

My 01 fit a 17 just fine. With the stock rear, I could swap from 16 to 17 without breaking the chain. I had a 15 too, but never put it on.

I usually ran the 17 unless I was planning on dirt stuff.
