Why won't the engine stay at TDC? Is the spark plug in? It isn't hard to make a fixture to stop it going over.
I'm thinking of a bar on a socket on the flywheel when aligned to the T mark.

But the measurement from the pin to the top of the piston has no difference on the stroke. If they have different length conrods then the piston eye will have to be in a different place.

Mine is a '85 LMF and definately has a mechanical tacho driven from the cam.

I have some on my XL600 LMF, after 30 years or so they start 'delaminating' going rotten, mostly from the inside where you cannot see it and it is quite dangerous.

Crobox, why not look at what the XL600LMF uses?? It is much the same engine as yours (Top end is exactly the same) and the bottom end is kick and electric.

The sidecar was the easy bit.Made it all myself, cost about 40 in materials and I have a seat fitted in it for my kids to sit in (One at a time).
The hardest part was sorting out the mountings.

It is a genuine Honda tank fitted to the XL600LMF (PD04) and the seat is slightly different, it has a wider nose at a different angle of attack.
