I did that repair last summer and my Clymer manual explicitly warns about blocking that oil hole when installing the seal. You should try and correct that condition.

Something like this will be the first thing that I do once I install the replacement engine. Fred at Arrowhead did this but by then I only had about a 1000 miles left in the bearing.
