Man that spot is the problem with those bikes. They carried the cam in there and used the valve cover as the cam caps, the threads are very easy to pull out as they have all the stress of pushing...

L mod that airbox, pull the snorkel and screen, $.02 mod the needle or get the KLX and use something other than a K&N. It's a KLR so your never going to make it breath fire but opening up the box...
