There is one large relief on the top with one side being slightly wider indicating the intake side, There is no arrow and the serial number is in the centre of the top....

Woosner piston install advice

Installing a woosner piston into my 1996 xr600 and not sure of the
Direction for install as it doesn't have an arrow on it just a serial
Number on the top.

I see you mentioned the small end of the rod is fine, im surprised that it would be fine going by the heat marks and damage on the gudgeon pin and also when you said the pin wobbled in the rod.
