This may be a long shot but have you checked the airbox drain plug? Seems like if it was lost or something oil could possibly get over there via the top of the cat. Good luck.

I can't remember my 1100, but the 1150 has a drain plug under the airbox, driver side, that you might want to find and open. Put a rag under it beforehand, and enjoy that ride!

Glad you got one! I think they are pretty good, albeit a tich thin and hard to clean the oil cooler. I just added a little mesh in front of that screen.
