I wouldn't say it's too much for a 500EXC as I've ridden that entire area on a 450EXC with a 20L tank on, complete tool kit strapped to the bike and tall gearing. Probably not a great idea to do it...

I'd agree with you on that one... I rode a 500EXC last year and ended up picking up an 08 450EXC just because the 450EXC is a better bike all around. I'm not a fan of the squishy feeling of the EFI...

Isn't it the other way around with setting your forks lower? I flushed my forks and the bike seems MUCH more responsive with the increased trail in the front end... I could be wrong though.
