What did you/previous owner do to the rear end... I assume the rim is a suzuki item, but what about the tire size / swingarm modification needed to fit it?

You can do both tho... go down thru Italy, take a ferry from Bari to Bar and back via Montenegro. The road...

About a GS being more suitable than an RT.... is crap IMO. You can do this trip...
