Also, the 2003 should have the upgraded cam chain tensioner. The 2001 will have the old style, myself and others don't trust those. Cost about $50.00 to replace the old style with a manual tensioner....

Not only 3rd gear but, the rear shock busted a seal before the bike had 3,000 miles on it. By the time it had 9,000 miles on it, the plastic carb slide had to be replaced. :becca

Yes, it is indeed a different OEM spring. The length is different (longer on the 00-01). If you use aftermarket then you can use the same spring on both bikes and cut a spacer for the difference....
