The battery is a 12v 700MAH SLA battery I bought from Interstate battery - the model is an SLA1000. I guess it's usually used for house alarms but it's nice and small and perfect for my application...

I've just added a small full wave bridge rectifier from radio shack to my xr400. I installed it using the old wires that fed the tail-light, so it comes in line and after the OEM AC regulator....
