Actually I've gotten dust in mine even when greasing the seal area. I now use the BMC KTM 690 SMC/Enduro High Flow Air Filter without grease on the seal area and have no dust in the air box. YRMV

I believe it is a "bad fuel dongle" for the 990, and a "off road ABS dongle" for the 690. It does not do both things for both bikes....
