The one time I ran mine dry, I think I wound up with an air bubble in the top of the loop. Tilting the bike over resolved the issue and fuel flowed fine.

Luckily, jetting changes on the DR don't require carb removal. Loosen the boot clamps and rotate the carb. Drain the bowl using the drain screw first if changing jets.

No, that is definitely a 49-state tank. The California tanks have a sealing cap that is chrome and a different shape. A 49-state cap is not compatible with a CA tank.

I find that kind of range a bit useless. With the 4.9 gal IMS, I'm limited by the range of the bikes I'm riding with. Even then, I've never really run close to empty, even in the desert.
