A little waterproof grease out on the ends never hurt nothing. If the grease gets on other places that rub what is the harm? Sparingly of course.

Me thinks that the OP will take a look at the backing plate or the alternator cover and see that something is not in the right position. Maybe there are pieces that can be assembled in more than one...

What drives the cam?
Is it on the crank or is it gear driven? When you say that you rebuilt the motor, what all did you do to it? Was the top end apart? Was the clutch and/or the alternator pulled? Was the trans apart?...

Mine Does the Same Thing
I put a basket case 1000 together. I included brand new everything except cam chain tensioner. I suspect that the noise goes away after that. I will keep you posted. The $78.00 is in the Feb. budget....

A chain will stretch in various small spots only if you are not carefull, dumping the clutch or hard riding will stretch a to small or wrong grade chain.

I supplied the new part. It apparenty did not have a bushing. I will have to get home and look at the old pieces. The old bush should be there. A good mechanic should know better.
