I always thought exhaust gas temp was the best way, but I don't know anything about riding a carbed dirtbike in khatmandu at -18 degrees with a cv carb.

My local Starbucks is 1145 above sea level...

Nah, run it to 5000-7000 miles, then turn it around, and it will wear the opposite direction, and you shoudl get 10-12K miles out of the front that way.
