I agree they are fine on pavement but on most unpaved surfaces the front is very unpredictable. The rear seems OK until you hit real sand or mud.

Rebuild the brake master cylinders. I had the front brake on an old XR lock up on me. The MC was full of gunk even after I changed the fluid. $14 is cheap peace of mind.

I plastidipped some old XR parts. The side covers started peeling after the first ride where my pants/boots rubbed. I hope you have better luck.
