Next step: Disconnect the battery so you don’t fry anything, then remove the front cover to get at the rotor. Isolate the brushes, I just lift brushes a little bit and slide a toothpick in between...

Got tired of forking out $100 + for a “good” battery ( BMW) to have it last 2 years,. So I tried a UB12220, it lasted 3.5 years. Just replaced it with a new one for $44 delivered.

Check your valve adjustments, if there is no gap they can be a bear to start. Tight valves can = low or no compression.

I have an 83 R80G/S that the PO upgraded to a 1000cc and I like it. It does vibrate more, but the power increase is worth it in my opinion. Sounds like you already have the parts to make it happen....
