rotating them down or up actually makes it worse. They are right in a sweet spot with the most clearance, but not quite enough. Perhaps another hand guard....

I think I have a solution. Borrow a "trailer in a bag" from a friend. That way on the return, we can throw the trailer in the back of the van. They are rated for 1000lbs.
