Toss them, buy a pair of Micatechs and never worry about this stupid issue again. As a bonus, you'll get a better pannier in several other ways.

+1 for Eagle Creek. I use two medium Gear Boxes and a Drop Box. Clothes go in the Gear Boxes. A second pair of shoes (often dirty) go in the Drop Box. They work great.
