I rode KTM for years and also picked the TE450...
I rode KTM for years and also picked the TE450 for similar reasons. On dirtbike only criteria, it is a higher performance bike and IMHO more fun to ride. The 450 even has a bit of that two-stoke hit...

I'd agree. To the extent you define a DS as a "dirtbike with a plate", the KTM is the way to go. Best asset is the KTM's wide ratio tranny. That makes occasional road use much more comfortable.

The TE450 is an amazing dirtbike. My 06 is the funnest bike I've ever owned. The motor is very strong and will keep a smile on your face. Not great for regular highway use though.
