hahahahah... yeah, they probably were. I agree, there probably is some merit to the idea of over-cleaning. Generally I'd just wipe mine off after a day in the dirt and they'd get some wax from time...

It is probably just a matter of prioritization and since most of the young crowd is on sport bikes I suppose it is a self sustaining dynamo.

I'm 31 now and have been riding adventure style bikes since I was 24. Something that I have noticed is that I'm often one of the youngest if not the youngest guys riding in a group. Not that I mind...
