I've been wondering the same, but the manual clearly states left hand thread... The nut covers the whole end of the shaft, no visible thread :(

The piston rod has that as it's natural color, I think. The gearbox actually shifted better than usual for a while but then it got worse again, I'm hoping my gearset is still good. We'll see :)
