You can pull the boot back from the tranny............or you can feel the bolts through the rubber boot if you know what to feel for.
The 100% sure way is pull back the boot.

High ilde is set by the idle screws. A rebuild won't affect this.
If idle is set with a cold/cool motor, it will idle higher when hot. So, set idle with motor at operating temp.
