If you are in a city and use it to commute, a hard case is the way to go. The less you have to carry away from the bike, the better. Make sure it's big enough for the helmet.

I guess it also makes a difference whether your suspesion is set for one or two riders, loaded or not. it is sprung wieght and would affect the measure, I think.
