AD1 zipper failure ...... common?

I bought what looks like an unused pair of Aerostich AD1 pants off an ADV inmate.
Was trying them on with my different riding gear, boots, etc ...... just to check their versatility out before going...

From 1990 till last year I always had a bike set up for "sport touring" ... first a VFR then a 1200 Bandit and finally an ST2 .... all with hard bags .... all required suspension work to handle bags...
