XT600 sales soured Yamaha on the U.S. big Dualsport Market?

Maybe Yamaha feels they got stung when they had the XT600 for sale here, and not too many people bought them? IIRC, that was a 330 pound-ish bike with about 44 horsepower. If I found one in good...

Stabilize and Store

I recently spent a few hours catching up on The Walking Dead episodes that I'd never seen. Being a gearhead, I kept thinking that in the days and weeks after they became aware of the extent of the...

Fun bikes, but much better can be had

Just my opinion, but a season and a half on CT90's and CT110's was enough for me. They're fun little bikes for what they are, but realistically, they have limited capabilities for what you pay for a...

My solution

I've been waiting for some jerk to say something along the lines of, "Why not just buy the cleanest, lowest-mileage, 1998 or 1999 Suzuki DR350SE you can find, and you will have hit most of the...

Engineering as performance art

Ever notice how those engineers at NASA used to obsess about a repair or modification to a satellite? They'd build mock ups on the ground months before the Shuttle ever lifted off. They'd run...

At the end of last summer I was researching my next dual-sport, and the WR250R was high on my list too.

Based on WR prices I've seen in the past, I was thinking it would take around $3800 to get...

Hmmm...choices, choices

I did a a three day trip on the MCCCT on my 2003 KLR250 and it did just fine in all parts except the sandy sections, of which there are many. The KLR250 is a little too heavy and a little too...

Versys to KLR250

I sold my '08 Versys and picked up an '03 KLR........KLR250, that is. I've also got an '05 KLR250.

It's probably the best overall bike I've ever owned, out of many. As I get older (and fatter)...

A realistic cross-country mount

In my neck of the woods, a decent running CT90 can be had for $800-$1000, but deals like that are not falling off the trees - you have to look around for them. A few years ago I scored a low mileage...

choices, choices

I would tend to agree with this. I've owned a Trail 90 and a CT110. Both were underpowered bikes with weak suspensions, weak lights, weak brakes, etc. The suspension will disappoint you in 50 miles,...

My re-jet

I've done the following mods to both my '03 and '05 KLR250s, and have had excellent results:

#38 Pilot

#122 Main

FMF Q4 Muffler

Drilled four 1/2" holes in the top of my airbox.

That would be my bike.

The answer of course is my 2003 KLR250. :D

In all semi-seriousness though, I'd say the first year KLR250's, or the early XR250R's. Both were probably realistically making around 23-24 rwhp, and...

Well I very rarely wash a bike. I wash them once, very thoroughly, then I just make sure to spend ten minutes wiping them down with damp paper towels after every ride. Other than that, I wax them...

I concur

Well said. I have two KLR250s, and I love them both. Good little capable dualsports. Cheap, rugged and reliable, in my book. Not super fast or powerfull, but not seven grand either.

Everything has a price

Well, the DR has made one of the KLRs redundant. This one has about 1500 mile miles on it now, if I remember correctly. I paid $2150 for it, then put about another $100 into it for fluids, filters,...

I put new tires, bars and grips on that shiny new DR 350 yesterday, then took it for a nice 25 mile blast to scrub the tires in. It was 42 degrees and sprinkling rain. I ain't no fair-weather rider....

Buy it if you like it

I just bought a nice, clean '99 DR350SE about two weeks ago.

'99's are one of the more desireable years, due to the cartridge forks. Mine has 1800 miles on it, and is in very good condition. I...

'99 DR350, with a TKC80 on the front, and a Pirelli MT90 Scorpion A/T on the rear. Take the 55 mph secondary roads and enjoy the whole trip.

Oh, I agree - a bike's worth what the market will bear. The region definately makes a difference too. There's a California plated '95 SE on Bike Finds right now, that's going for $2750. It has 6000...

In my opinion, that's a little too much for that bike. By comparison, I just picked up a very clean '99 SE about two weeks ago. Mine had just over 1800 miles on it. It still had the original tires on...

New to me '99 DR350SE

Hi All,

Just picked up a super-clean '99 SE a couple of days ago. Just over 1500 miles on it. This is my first DR350.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool KLR250 guy. Love 'em so much I've got two of them....
