Issue resolved
Despite there being no external evidence of the fusible link being melted I tested the 4 links next to the battery and 1 of them was bad. Like I said, there wasn't any melted plastic on the casing,...

just filled mine this a.m....
it took 4.98 Gallons...odo showed 195 miles. My commute is 4 miles with about 6 lights...not a very fun commute. I get 40+ if I drive easy and am riding in the countryside.
