My last bike was a chain drive (09 KLR). It had an O-ring chain, adjust once and lube as required. They really aren't a big deal, just a little messy.

For my needs, getting the Vulcan was the best thing I could do. It's a great bike and low maintenance and has nice fuel range. My fiance actually enjoys riding as much as I do too.
