I have a KLR250 and a DR350 currently. I agree the DR is much better on the road and better all around bike even though my DR is 6 years older than the KLR.

Spark Plug tunnels
I had a leak on my 06 ST that was diffucult to track down. The oil was leaking into the spark plug tunnel. It the tunnel has a weep hole(very small) at the bottom, right near where the exhaust comes...

GPS Power
You have a good point. I am moving my 550 between my ST and KLR now. The boot up time after a fuel stop is troblesome at times. I did not know how much the GPS would draw on the battery if left on. ...

probably combination of all problems
I think it is a little bit of all the things mentioned. Switch is missing. It is bent in. It is floppy/ worn.
This blob weld sounds like it would work.

Kickstand Rubbing
My first issue with the DR. I noticed the kickstand is rubbing the swing arm and making a terrible looking gouge mark. Didn't notice this before. But from the looks it has been like this for a while....

I have a st1300. Have put about 25k on it. The heat issue is my worst complaint. It seems to me to be just due to no air flow around your lower half. The fairing just gives you too much protection...

Float valve struck
just had same problem in a little CRF 100. Float valve was stuck. Causing bowl to fill and gas to run into top of overflow tube and out the drain line.
Never been inside the carb on my klr. But...

I have owned 4-7.3's put 150 - 200k on each. Work Trucks. Used and abused. No problems. Great trucks. Sold the business so I don't need disel trucks anymore.
