I had my local sign writer apply clear contact, the same as used on the bonnet (Hood) of cars. Makes the whole tank look shiny, but protects it well.

That might be so, but that's no hardship as it just pulls out of the seal. I didn't get spacers with my 950 wheels so just use the original 990 spacers.

The answer I believe is making sure you don't push the starter button until the bike has done...
