A good compromise between the S10 and the FJR is probably the Honda NC700X. Still has some two up capability, much cheaper and 50% better MPG.

I didn't notice anything untoward with the S10 seat nor a knee problem while riding. It was cool how easy it was to stand. That would come in handy for absorbing the really rough stuff.
