I had a set of the Micatech Pilots on my R12GS. The LH bag wrapped around the exhaust with (what looks to me like) similar clearance. I never had a problem of overheating in the LH bag. Of course, I never rode inside the LH bag either... ;)
I'm sure an aftermarket pipe, being smaller, would give more clearance and airflow around that area.
