Made a left turn north on NM 36/ 117 at Quemado.
I'm all proud and smug about the bike rack I made, as one might be able to guess. However, riding down this empty road I noticed that the bike's shadow was moving funny. I pulled over and saw this:
Broken rack mount. I sat on the side of the road trying to whittle a replacement out of a Tupperwear lid. A guy stopped, and while I borrowed his pocket knife to continue the whittling project, he volunteered to drive the 15 mile round trip to pick up some washers and spaces.
He came back, the replacements worked well, and the bike rack was back in one solid functional piece.
Thanks, New Mexico Department of Roads guy!
It's cool the people you meet on the road when you need 'em.
