A bummer of a ride report

So I took my press pass up to Angeles today this what I got. When to the 2nd road block CHP was there and I don't think they see a lot journalist on bikes so it took some convincing but he let me in. The 2 was almost completely burnt from La Canada to ANF HWY the road it self looked fine but most of the guardrail post had been burnt away and there had already been one landslide that they where still clearing. From where ANF HWY meets the Crest to Red box was a little better but still badly burnt however the ranger station was still there and being used as a staging ground for fighting the Mt. Wilson fire.

Upper Tujunga Completely burnt as was ANF HWY from Hidden Springs to mill creek.

Mill Creek
At mill creek about 1/2 the buildings had been burnt down and they had been piling the derbry from trees in the parking lot where Lynx ends.

Pacifico (also the beer I'm drinking right now)
Pacifico was completely burnt up to that intersection where it opens up and we often stop

from there on it didn't look to bad just little smoldering fires here and there. I got about 3/4 of the way to the crest when I saw the choppers doing water drops on some small fires, I then ran into some fire fighters who told me I can't be on the trail so I headed back the way I came and then up to Newcombs.

Newcombs still standing mother fucker!
As I was head further and further up the crest toward Newcombs it looked and smelled like the fire had been there much more recently but then I got there and it was still standing however a bit ashy. A fire had gotten very close just across the street but it made it.

Mt. Wilson from the 2
With the sun setting I headed back down stopping to take some photos of Mt Wilson where the fire was still going and Josephine's peak which had been totally burnt.

It was a bummer of a ride but the rebuilding had already begone I saw palates of guardrail material and a lot of road work under way however I talked to a Cal-trains guy who said "When winter comes this road is going to be shut down" due to land slides. We will have to see.
