Bgoodsoil nailed it - from my understanding of Roger's original post.
I'd clarify his term 'modern airhead' to mean an airhead with upgrades that brings it closer to todays bikes: brakes, tires, suspension, power, ignition, electrical, lighting, etc.
I think the G/S and GS crowd get into this deeper than the rest with larger brake discs, four or six piston calipers, 400 or 800 watt alternators, electronic ignitions with hall sensor at the crankshaft, twenty more horsepower, Ohlins or other after market shocks, lacing in different rims and on and on.
