Some press releases came out over the weekend on the Dos Sertoes there are now 171 registered entrants. Representatives from 11 countries and 21/27 Brazilian states have already confirmed their presence in the race.
Top off-road competition nationally and second best proof of its kind worldwide, the Sertões Rally turns 18 in 2010 and continues the tradition of having foreign participants and a high number of competitors in Brazil. The race, which will start from Goiânia (in the central south region) and arrive in Fortaleza (on the north eastern cost) already has representatives from 11 countries, over 21 states.

Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, El Salvador, United States, Belgium, Germany, Holland and South Africa , and Brazil, are confirmed.
Entries will close on July 11. The race will begin on August 10 (ADLs) and ends on the 21st in Fortaleza (CE), covering six states.
For those of you wondering, I have confirmed there will be satellite tracking in place so rallye enthusiasts should be able to keep up with progression of the forerunner as well as how the the rest of us are doing ploughing through deep rivers whilst fighting off overtaking cars and trucks.
The traditional and challenging "Rally dos Sertões" should again encompass over 5,000 km on a variety of surfaces, offering drivers and crews a complete set of challenges in the cross country world.
It sounds like its going to be a more difficult race than in previous years:
Survey reaches the halfway mark with “extra difficulty”
The Sertões International Rally technical director continues the ground survey for the 18th edition of the race.
Hardship for machines and drivers shows up in any kind of terrain; this is the hallmark of Sertões International Rally. And the survey for the 18th edition of the greatest Brazilian off-road adventure goes on, while technical director Edu Sachs, from Dunas Race company, has been working to raise the level of challenge for the competitors.
Since May 5th, Sachs has been riding and mapping routes that will make up the route of this year’s edition. Half of the ten stages of the rally have already been mapped.
“The fourth day has all sorts of terrain. It begins downhill with some erosion, followed by slow roads, with log bridges, and plenty of rocks. The final part is the most beautiful, with tight passages on farms and river crossings with stones and sand,” he described. “The level is very good. We had to come up with some deviations because of fallen bridges,” he said.
Exactly halfway in the course, Sachs said he had assembled the most difficult stage in ten years’ experience in surveying for the Rally. “We had all kinds of problems: fallen bridges, diversion of rivers, impassable sections and other difficulties that forced us to seek alternative routes. We found some gates with padlocks and even had to spend a night sleeping in the woods,” described Sachs.
“But the special came up wonderful. Despite the difficulty, it was the prettiest road book ever. It's awesome,” said an impressed Sachs. “It has a bit of everything: slow sections, GPS navigation, many rivers, rocks, sections of trial, high-speed roads merging with trails and secondary roads all the time,” he explained. Features that demand much integration between machine and driver, and mainly the navigator,” described the technical director.
“We have been working for ten days to set up five specials”. Despite the delay, everything is going very well,” he said.
