originally we were thinking we would do a tour of the UK (trip planning thread
), but as it turns out the old adage that says "in America 100 years is a long time, in the UK 100 miles is a long way"
was spot on.... we found that our plan to hit Wales & Scotland would need more days, or more motorways, neither of which we had. So, we ended up tooling around England. It just means wales & Scotland will have to be there next time!
so anyway... on with the story.
Just two of us on this trip, me & my buddy Joe. I teach the MSF course for Joe on the weekends, and have been on a few riding adventures with him over the years. We got to Logan in plenty of time for our flight.. what to do? Aer Lingus? better fuel up!
we figured on free-flowing Guinness on the flight over... as it turns out they actually make you PAY for drinks! the horror!
we changed planes in Dublin and caught the next flight to Heathrow w/o much drama. A ride on the tube and a hike down Uxbridge Road brought us to our bikes
we took off out of London headed south west towards the New Forest.
bit of rain... it'll be over quick says Joe
but it did end as predicted and we set off again.
we arrived at the Sammy miller Museum to see these guys
and a ton of very cool machinery
"Jap" bikes... made me laugh
two wheel drive
quite old.... I asked Joe if he rode one when new
bikes as chick magnets... since the dawn of time
after the museum we hit the road westward.... no particular destination, which was the theme of the trip
we stopped here in Tolpuddle, Dorset
we learned about the Tolpuddle Martyrs
got pointed towards a nice B&B down the road, and had our first "real ales"
pretty much end of day one.
survived London traffic while jet-lagged? check
made it to Sammy Miller? check
