Always been worried about mine because of having to slip it in city traffic too much. Sometimes these days I'll run it up hard thru the gears and it feels like it's slippin a bit but I can't really tell. As for removing that big nut, you may need an impact gun unless you want to jamb something in there to stop the slipping clutch from turning. But I wouldn't recommend that.
